I just purchased TimeSheet and am having trouble parsing the CSV file.  There doesn't seem to be a line delimiter between the lines of data.  The only character following "Hours Elapsed", which I presume is the end of the header line, is a space.  The onlc CR/LF (0D0A) characters, which are usually line delimiters, are between quotes in the Comments field.  (Hmm, perhaps that means that I put them there in the comment - need to research that).  Anyway - when I dump this into Excel it doesn't create rows that I can parse into fields.  How is this supposed to work?

Thanks

Hi Jon,

I have heard of others having this problem, and it usually is a result of Outlook removing what it considers "extra" line breaks.  To validate that the mail is being sent correctly (with the appropriate line breaks) I would suggest that you check the contents of the email in the Mail application before you send it.  If the email content appears correctly here, then it is most likely the mail client that you're using to receive the email.  If it doesn't appear correctly in the email, please let me know.

Also, the 1.3 update was submitted to Apple for review last week, and it includes changes that allow you to configure your own outbound email server (SMTP server) in Easy TimeSheet.  Once this update is available, you will be able to use Easy TimeSheet to send mail directly through the SMTP server of your choice.  The two main benefits of this are that you will not have to quit Easy TimeSheet to send your data, and the data will be in a csv file attached to the email that can be opened directly (which hopefully won't be as prone to problems).

Thanks for trying Easy TimeSheet,

Charles - thanks for the reply.  Having Outlook replace the missing line feeds helped, but it still added unnecessary line feeds in between some of the fields.  Here's the file from Outlook - note the breaks after "rate" and "hours" before "elapsed"

Hi Jon,

Unfortunately I don't have a copy of Outlook that I can use to troubleshoot your issue.  My best guess is that it's altering the formatting in some attempt to make it more user readable (line wrapping of sorts).  Where you able to verify that the content in the mail app does not have the extra line breaks before you send the message?

Hopefully Apple will finish reviewing the 1.3 update to Easy TimeSheet today or tomorrow (they approved the 1.3 Lite version yesterday), and you can switch over to using SMTP internally with real file attachments.

Good news on v1.3! I'm looking forward to it. I also gave the app a 5-star rating on iTunes, but they haven't put my review up yet. Seems that Apple is running slow during the Holidays (so am I, so I can't complain).

Hmm - I'll try it with my Gmail account without using Outlook.  That will be a minor PITA since I use Outlook for all of my email, but I can see if it works.  Thanks.

I tried the GMAIL account, which eliminated the extra line feeds in the header and other lines.  User still need to be careful not to insert line feeds in the project descriptions or comments, since they will be transferred to the exported file and mess it up.

Is there a way to add to the Global Tasks?  There are task categories such as phone calls, meetings, etc that I'd like to be able to add instead of "general".

Thanks

Hi Jon,

Being able to create new global/project based tasks is a feature that I have yet to add, although it is planned.  If you would like this feature sooner rather than later, please go vote on it in the Suggestions forum (and one other feature, which is highly ranking for you).

I'm glad that your email issue is (at least partially) figured out.  Hopefully the 1.3 release will be approved soon and it won't be an issue at all.
